CDP Global 500 Report 2011 – Some key stats

Carbon Disclosure Project is the only global climate change reporting system. CDP is instrumental in the fact that over 3,000 organizations in more than 60 countries the globe measure and disclose their GHG emissions, water management and climate change strategies. The increasing disclosure in response to CDP’s information request across investor and supply chain progr`am can be seen in the graph.

CDP recently released the “CDP Global 500 Report 2011: Accelerating Low Carbon Growth” on September 14.  The report shows that

  1. 68% of the world’s largest 396 companies include addressing climate change as a part of their business strategies
  2. 75% of responding organizations have taken targets for reducing emissions
  3. 93% of the companies addressed the climate change issue at the senior management or board level. This percentage was 85% in 2010
  4. 45% have reduced their GHG emissions in 2011, though the verification under standards such as GHG protocol or ISO is undertaken by only 37%
