Energy Efficiency Targets in Eight Sectors under PAT Approved

According to a press release by Ministry of Power, the Energy Efficiency targets in 8 sectors covering 477 Designated Consumers (DCs) under Perform Achieve and Trade (PAT) scheme have been approved. These targets will become mandatory after the appropriate notification.

This was informed by Minister of State for Power Shri K.C.Venugopal in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha on 19th August 2011.
BEE has initiated programs and schemes targeting the following areas.

  • Household lighting,
  • Commercial Buildings,
  • Standards & Labeling of appliances,
  • Demand Side Management in Agriculture /Municipalities,
  • Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and Large Industries, and
  • Capacity Building of State Designated Agencies (SDAs) and facilitating preparation of action plan for Energy Conservation in each State.

The aim of these programs is promote energy efficiency durting 11th 5-year plan period and achieve 5% reduction in consumption that equals to 10,000MW of avoided capacity by the year 2012.
