Continuing on the work done for light trucks and cars ( Relevant post ), the EPA and Department of Transportation’s (DOT’s) National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have proposed a rule that would set fuel economy and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions standards for medium- and heavy-duty trucks and buses. These standards would be applicable to to vehicles in model years 2014 through 2018.

When implemented completely, the rule will cut fuel use and emissions from new trucks by as much as 20 percent by 2018. The proposed rule will set separate standards for large highway combination tractors , heavy-duty pickups, vans, utility vehicles, and buses. The agency is also proposing standards for N2O and CH4 emissions from truck engines.
